Comparison of Use between Two Materials of Elastic Deformation in the Control of Shoulder Pain of Hemiplegic Patient, Randomized and Blind

Abstract

The use of elastic bandage is with great frequency used in the control of  skeletal muscle pains. There are materials of different qualities and different elastic deformation, and each  them produce  different sensations and  perceptions. The objective of this study was to compare the use of two different materials of elastic deformation in the control of shoulder pain of hemiplegic patients. Type of study: Cross-sectional,  randomized  and blind study was used. Four rolls of elastic bandage  Therapy Tex ® brand  and four rolls of elastic bandage Tensoplast brand were used, in 18 patients, of both genders (seven women and eleven men), used always without tension in  both brands, all with a diagnosis of cerebral vascular accident (CVA) and pain in the plegic side shoulder. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was used for the pain  control in the plegic side shoulder. The patients were randomized and assigned to four groups called GI, GII. GIII and GIV, leaving the group I and II with 5 patients, and the other groups with 04 patients. The patients of groups I and III used the Therapy tex bandage. The patients of group II and IV used the  Tensoplast bandage. The patients in groups I and II were treated twice a  week  changing the bandage once a week. The patients in groups III  and IV were treated once a  week  changing the bandage also once a week. In all  the patients EVA was used on the first day of the treatment and at the end of two months. Results: The patients of group I and III had a reduction of pain in 100% and 62.87% (SD 29.68), respectively. The patients in groups II and IV had a reduction of pain in 17.29% (SD 34.38) and 18.75 (SD 23.94). Both brands of bandage reduced pain in the shoulder of hemiplegic patients, being that one of the brands obtained better results in pain control.

O uso da bandagem elástica é com grande freqüência utilizada no controle de dores músculoesquelética. Existem materiais de diferentes qualidades e diferentes deformações elástica, tendo cada qual a produção de sensações e percepções diferentes. O objetivo foi comparar o uso de dois diferentes materiais de deformação elástica no controle da dor de ombro de pacientes hemiplégicos. Tipo de estudo: Foi utilizado o estudo do tipo transversal, randomizado e cego. Materiais e Método: Foram utilizados quatro rolos de bandagem elástica da marca Therapy Tex^® e quatro rolos de bandagem elástica da marca Tensoplast, em dezoito pacientes, de ambos sexos (sete mulheres e onze homens), utilizada sempre sem tensão ambas as marcas, todos com diagnóstico de acidente vascular encefálico (AVE) e dor no ombro do lado plégico. Foi utilizado a escala visual analógica (EVA) para o controle da dor no ombro do lado plégico. Os pacientes foram randomizados e alocados em quatro grupos denominados GI, GII. GIII e GIV, ficando os grupo I e II com 5 pacientes, e os outros grupos com 04 pacientes. Os pacientes dos grupos I e III usaram a bandagem Therapy Tex. Os pacientes do grupo II e IV usar a bandagem Tensoplast. Os pacientes dos grupos I e II realizaram tratamento duas vezes por semana com trocas da bandagem uma vez na semana. Os pacientes do grupo III e IV, realizaram tratamento uma vez na semana com trocas da bandagem também uma vez na semana. Em todos os pacientes foram utilizados a EVA no primeiro dia do tratamento e ao final de dois meses. Resultados: os pacientes do Grupo I. Os pacientes do grupo I e III tiveram uma redução da dor em 100% e 62,87% (DP 29,68), respectivamente. Os pacientes dos grupos II e IV tiveram redução da dor em  17,29 % (DP 34,38) e 18,75 (DP 23,94). Ambas marcas de bandagem reduziram a dor no ombro de paciente hemiplégico, sendo que uma das marcas obteve melhor resultado no controle da dor.
