Effect of Therapeutic Bandage in the Reduction of the Algic Symptoms Arising Out of Sports Activity in Amateur Handball Athletes from João Pessoa-PB

Resumo

Abstract

The current study involved the effect of  therapeutic bandage in the reduction of the algic  symptoms arising out of sports activity in amateur handball athletes  from  João Pessoa-Pb. The objective was to evaluate the application of therapeutic bandages in athletes of clubs, associations and schools that participated in the championship of Paraiba state in 2009. The hypothesis of the study is that there is a difference among  the three moments in the scale of pain. Type of study: Field study of non-invasive character, characterized by being held in a given territory to be mapped. This study was a quantitative-qualitative approach. Materials and Methods: 12 male athletes participated in this study, with ages between 20 and 40 years, all in full physical activity. The technique of therapeutic bandage was applied  in all subjects and applied a questionnaire, which included the identification of each subject, as well as eight questions concerning their life as an athlete and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The measurement of pain, through EVA, was performed at the moment of the lesion, with ten, twenty and thirty minutes after the application of therapeutic bandage. The result of the Wilcoxon non-parametric test (p<0.05) in the moments: intensity at the time of injury versus 10 min after application (0.0004788), intensity at the time of injury versus 20 min after application (0.00002337), intensity at the time of injury versus 30 min after application (0.00000979) showed that there was a reduction in the level of the pain intensity. The sample analyzed had a reduction in the level of the pain intensity.

Resumo

O presente estudo envolveu o efeito da bandagem terapêutica na redução do quadro álgico decorrente de atividade esportiva em atletas de handebol de João Pessoa-PB. Objetivo foi avaliar a aplicação da bandagem terapêutica em atletas de clubes, associações e escolas que participaram do Campeonato Paraibano de 2009. A hipótese do estudo é que há diferença entre os três momentos na escala de dor. Tipo de estudo: Estudo de campo de caráter não invasivo, caracterizado por ser realizado em um determinado território a ser mapeado. Esse estudo teve uma abordagem quantitativa-qualitativo. Material e Métodos: Participaram deste estudo 12 atletas do sexo masculino, com idades entre 20 e 40 anos, todos em plena atividade física. Foi aplicada a técnica da bandagem terapêutica em todos os sujeitos e aplicado um questionário, que constava a identificação de cada sujeito, bem como oito questões relativas à sua vida como atleta e a Escala Visual Analógica (EVA). A mensuração da dor, através da EVA, foi realizada no momento da lesão, com dez, vinte e trinta minutos após a aplicação da bandagem terapêutica. O resultado do teste Não Paramétrico de Wilcoxon (p<0,05) nos momentos: intensidade no momento da lesão versus 10 min após a aplicação (0,0004788), intensidade no momento da lesão versus 20 min após a aplicação (0,00002337), intensidade no momento da lesão versus 30 min após a aplicação (0,00000979) mostrou que houve redução no nível da intensidade da dor. A amostra analisada teve redução no nível da intensidade da dor.
